| NEW COURSE TO OBTAIN NCCCO RIGGER 1 CERTIFICATION |
NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) Rigger 1 Certification course is now available. The instructor is Joe Herzog, a 49r and NCCCO Certified Trainer. This course is required in order to obtain the Rigger 1 “certification”, which is a higher standard than the OSHA minimum required “qualification”. Our other rigging and signaling course, which is also available, meets the OSHA “qualification” standard for both rigging and signaling. Xcel Energy – Monticello requires that anyone lifting any weight up to 2000 pounds to be Rigger 1 certified. However, our rigging and signaling course IS approved by Xcel – Monticello for signaling a lift operator. Course consists of one 8-hour Saturday which includes a written NCCCO exam, and a 1-hour NCCCO practical exam, given individually with Joe on an evening the week after the Saturday class. The cost to the JATC for the class is $295 but the JATC will pay $200 towards that cost. You will still be responsible for the $95 test fee and the $30 registration. Please call the JATC if you need more information on our rigging courses. [more...]

| NEW COURSE – EVITP, THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE INFRASTRUCTURE TRAINING PROGRAM |
The Minneapolis Electrical JATC is an official training center for EVITP.
What is the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP)?
The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP) has been established to provide the Electric Vehicle Transportation sector of the electrical industry, and all stakeholders, a structured platform to facilitate training and certification for the installation of Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) across Residential and Commercial/Public markets.
EVITP has created a national training and certification program that provides the EV industry with the highest level of verifiable knowledge and technical understanding to support the sound, safe and successful growth of the EV market. EVITP’s training content will incorporate and reflect the requirements, high standards and concerns of industry partners and stakeholders.
Prerequisites for the EVITP Installer Certification are a current journeyman or master license and having successfully completed the Inside Wireman Apprenticeship Program. This is a fast paced 24 hour 3-day class, covering topics such as the history of electric vehicles, electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) manufacturers, electric vehicle supply equipment site assessment and installation, NEC rules and regulations, utility policy and integration, consumer relations, and electric vehicle manufacturers. In order to certify at the completion of the class, the participant must pass a written test and be capable of successfully calculating a residential service load. Certification is through the EVITP. Attendance is mandatory for all sessions in order to sit for the certification exam.
